HISTORY LESSON

Legend has it that soon after the completion of the Cloaca Maxima, (The main sewer line constructed in the late 500’s BC in Rome), a statue of a woman was found in the sewers. Promptly rescued and cleaned, she became Cloacina, the Roman Goddess of the Sewer. Romans came to believe that Cloacina ruled over and protected their sanitary workers and the extensive sewer system they serviced.

While we may never know why that statue of the woman was thrown into the cloaca, the sewer system revolutionized cleanliness standards and daily life for the citizens of Rome, and made the once discarded statue, a revered goddess. Her importance is evidenced by the fact that a coin, still available today, was minted in her honor in 46 BC. Additionally, Titus Tatius had a Cloacina statue and shrine erected on the Roman Forum in the 8th Century BC. This shrine is believed to be located on the entrance to the sewer system — an ancient manhole. The foundations of this landmark are still visible in Rome.

Featured Product: Industrial Batch Reactor

Cloacina’s Industrial Batch Reactor™ (IBR) is a package wastewater treatment plant that treats industrial wastewater utilizing activated sludge and clarification in a single vessel. All interior and exterior components are manufactured from high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials. The tank and equipment skid are fabricated from stainless steel. Cloacina’s IBR is ideal for clients needing a wastewater system with a small footprint that can pre-treat wastewater prior to sewer disposal, sub-surface reuse and frost and/or dust control water. The system includes a cutting-edge control system which allows facility staff to remotely access, monitor and make changes to the plant, collect data for reporting, view live on-site video and verify the completion of routine maintenance. The IBR is factory-tested, completely assembled prior to shipment and is easy to install, operate and maintain. Models are available for buried, partially-buried and above-grade installations. The Industrial Batch Reactor can be installed in compact and remote locations.

VIRTUAL TOURS ARE AVAILABLE

Cloacina has been conducting virtual tours of our manufacturing facility and projects currently the factory floor with great success. These private tours can accommodate multiple team members in different offices and locations. Tours are tailored to viewers’ needs and interests and questions can be asked and answered along the way. Popular tour topics have included: Learning more about what package wastewater treatment plants are capable of Seeing what sets Cloacina apart from other package plant manufacturers Your particular wastewater project needs and what Cloacina models can meet those needs Emerging trends and changes in the water and wastewater industries and how to be compliant Learn how you can reclaim 100% of your treated effluent for irrigation and sanitation purposes To schedule a virtual tour, please contact Chris Nally, Cloacina’s Sales Manger at chrisn@cloacina.com or 805.441.0212. Cloacina is proud to announce that a 15,000 gallon per day MEMPAC-E is coming soon to the Bernardus Lodge in Carmel Valley, CA. This project will integrate the new Cloacina package wastewater treatment plant with existing equipment in a limited site footprint. We are excited to work with The Wallace Group on this project that is expected to ship in late 2020. Stay tuned for more photographs and details!

Prevent Damage to Downstream Treatment Equipment

image.jpeg

COVID-19 outbreaks around the globe have prompted panic buying and toilet paper shortages. As a result, operators of domestic systems are seeing spikes in inorganics and toilet paper alternatives such as napkins, wipes, paper towels and rags being flushed down the drain. Cloacina developed a stainless steel package headworks system to remove unwanted inorganics such as these from waste steams to prevent damage to downstream treatment equipment.

Stage I™

image.jpeg

Cloacina’s Stage I™ is a complete package wastewater treatment plant designed for small facilities and those with a limited footprint or future plans for expansion. Recognizing that a pump station is necessary for most wastewater treatment systems, Cloacina developed a compact unit that provides high-quality treatment in the footprint of the average pump station. Most Stage I™ models are incorporated into a standard lift station vessel and designed to treat less than 2000 Gallons Per Day (GPD). The unit can operate indefinitely as a treatment system, meeting an average discharge limit of 150 Total Suspended Solids (TSS)/150 Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Should flows, loading or discharge requirements dictate additional treatment equipment, the Stage I™ is easily converted into a lift station to supply the new downstream treatment system. Cloacina’s Stage I™ includes a cutting-edge controls package that allows facility staff to remotely monitor and make adjustments to system parameters, collect information for reporting, and verify the completion of routine maintenance. Stage I™ models can be self-contained or designed to fit into an existing buried vessel.
